My first trip to Bangkok -- Day 2 (I)

It's still raining today and i was reminded of another Peanuts comic strip that goes something like this:
Linus is upset about his playground moment being ruined by a rainstorm. He tries the rhyme, "Rain, rain, go away. Come again some other day." Suddenly, the rain stops. He walks to his house in stunned silence. He then approaches Lucy and, on bended knee, pleads "Hide Me!"

(Gotta spilt my travel log for Day 2 into two parts as i'm rather busy today and don't have time to write more...)

We had breakfast in the hotel on the second day (8-Jan, Sunday) and headed to Central Chidlom mall again at around 10am. We took a cab instead of the LRT and it seemed like it was easy to get a cab on Sunday morning. We had wanted to get the golf shoes that we saw the day before and probably a golf cap as well. See, 贝 and i were really serious about picking up golfing this year, so dressing right would be the first step.

I did manage to get a pair of nice golf shoes at Central Chidlom but 贝 didn't because they didn't have his size there. We also didn't find any golf caps that were to our liking. We had to meet up with 贝's brother for lunch so we proceeded to the oh-so-famous Chatuchak Weekend Market at around noon time.

I was totally amazed by the sheer size of the market. The Suan-Lum Night Bazaar that we didn't finish touring the night before suddenly appeared to be small in comparison to Chatuchak. It was so gigantic that they even distributed maps at the entrance.

The market was divided into sections and each section sells different kinds of things such as clothing, accessories, handicrafts, pottery, furniture, souvenirs, arts, books, antiques, plants, pets... you name it, they have it. One could easily get lost in the market and not knowing which area had already been visited.

It turned out that it was a mistake for us to visit Chatuchak with the bulky shopping bags (for my golf shoes and other stuffs). The market was so crowded with tourists as well as locals that it was as if everyone in Bangkok was there. As we were advised to be mindful of pickpockets, we needed to pay attention to our bags at all times. So it was a drag to shop in this manner. We told ourselves that we would make sure we come empty-handed the next time with probably just a pouch or something.

We didn't spend too much time shopping there, maybe only about an hour or so. Then we met up with 贝's brother. He decided to let us have an experience of what the locals eat so we had lunch at Chatuchak. One of the shops in the market was a small eatery serving local food with lots of locals having lunch there. We had two types of sour and spicy Thai-style salads, Tom Yam soup and grilled chicken to go with the Thai glutinous rice. The meal was delicious even though the Thai salads and Tom Yam soup were far too spicy for me.

After lunch, 贝's brother drove us out of the city center where we had the highlight of our trip -- the Ultraman ("The World of Heroes") exhibition.
