The past weekend

The past weekend was marked by insufficient sleep, lots of exercises, and excessive exposure to the sun.

On both Saturday and Sunday, we woke up early at around 7.30am. I really miss the days when i could sleep till noon on weekends. Sleeping has become such luxury to me, especially a quality sleep. I'm so so so sleepy now... Sigh, i guess this is gonna be a long day for me.

We had our golf practice at the driving range on Saturday morning, as our last two golf lessons were changed to Sunday. After the practice, the five of us golfing kaki and Sui went to Singapore for a shopping spree. The main purpose was to bring Carol and Min to get second-hand golf clubs. As i've gotten quite a good bargain last time for my half set of golf clubs, and i remembered seeing a few other ladies sets too at the shop, i thought Carol and Min would be able to get themselves a set each before we play on the golf course. It was too bad that most ladies sets were already sold off and the ones that were left weren't to Min's liking. Carol did get a full set though, and her hubby managed to bargain a price from SGD450 to SGD350. He sure is the only guy i know so far who's better in bargaining than any ladies i know.

Then of course, we didn't put up with the one-hour traffic jam at the Causeway and Sui didn't tag along just for the golf clubs. Yes, it's the time of the year again for the Great Singapore Sales. How could we possibly miss it?! Most shops were having 50% to 70% store-wide discounts, but Sui and Min still found the stuffs too expensive because they converted the prices back to Ringgit. So in the end Sui didn't buy anything and Min only got a shirt or two. As for me, i didn't really spend a lot but it was fruitful nonetheless, as i did get most of the things that i had wanted to buy.

What i spent on that day was nothing though compared to Carol. She spent almost SGD3000 on that day. She and her hubby didn't go shopping at Orchard Road; they went to the PC Show at Suntec instead. 贝 and i, being IT people ourselves, had never been to any IT Exhibition before because we knew that we wouldn't be able to resist buying all the fancy gadgets there. True enough, Carol got herself a MacBook in the end, which was something that i've always wanted. I was so envious.

After a day of shopping, Sui, Min, 贝 and i had Korean cuisine for dinner in Singapore. When we reached home in JB, it was already past 11pm. I was totally bushed, but still gotta force myself to wake up early on the following day for our golf lesson.

We had our golf lesson at Ponderosa Golf and Country Club on the hot Sunday morning. This was the first time i set foot on a golf course and play a game -- well, a short game at least. After months of practising at the driving range, we thought we were pretty okay in our swings already. Boy, we sure were wrong. Doing the chipping and pitching on real grass weren't easy at all. Trying to hit the ball out of a sand bunker was even tougher. I guess we really need to practise more on the real thing instead of doing it at the driving range.

After the lesson, our handsome couch Daniel gathered us for a small competition on putting. Out of all the five students, i was the worst among all. I just kept missing the holes and putt the balls either too hard or too soft. That sure was a discouragement to me. It was as if i was reliving the horror of PE classes in my high school days, when i was always the one with the worst marks among the whole class of students.

Anyway, whether or not i was the worst player, i did enjoy the short game very much and am looking forward to the real game next Sunday afternoon. The only thing i'm not looking forward to is the sun. A few hours under the morning sun yesterday has already given me a bad tan. I can't imagine how it's gonna be like for next week lesson at 4.30pm. Hmm, gotta apply more of that sunscreen i bought from the Singapore Sales specially for golfing under the sun, even though i doubt it would help much...
