Postal code in Singapore

Those who don't stay in Singapore may not know that each building, be it HDB flat, apartments, condominium, or commercial complex, has a postal code on its own. Unlike Malaysia where a postal code covers an entire district, the postal code in Singapore is unique to every building on every street.

For the companies that bought the list of postal codes from SingPost and kept the data in their computer systems, it helps to minimize human errors when typing in the addresses. By just asking the customers for their postal code, the block number and street can be auto-populated into the system.

Embarrassed to say that despite being in Singapore for so many years, i didn't know about this until recent years. Then two days ago when we were discussing on the design of the system for phase two, i came to know that for those landed properties, each house has its own postal code. So basically if you are staying in a landed house, the postal code of your neighbour is different from yours. How cool is that?

I'm amazed. This shows how small Singapore really is.
