Theories from FB

I've always thought that Facebook is one of the best platform to prove or disprove the theory of "Six Degrees of Separation".

For those of you who do not know what this theory is about, you can Google for it. In short, this theory states that anyone on this planet is connected to another person through about six intermediate acquaintances.

If this theory is true, then we are actually closer knitted with each other than we've imagined.

So far, i've yet to see evidence of this theory on my FB. But then again, i did not really spend time tracing and matching all the acquaintances of my friends to find out if people are indeed connected to each other within six intermediaries. That's gonna be tough to carry out.

Yet, i've noticed an interesting thing recently.

People on this planet may or may not be so closely connected, but the experiences and incidents that happened on people sure closely resemble one another!

And i'm not only talking about the event itself but even the timing.

Firstly, LF told us that her application for Singapore PR was rejected. Just about two days after, i saw this on my FB:

LF and this guy do not know each other, but both of them were Singapore PRs before and both got rejected. Ok, you may say that this is nothing surprising since Singapore government has tightened up the issuance of PR since the election.

Then how about this - just a few days after i just got back from LA, i saw Misery Bear's photos of his LA trip. He should be there around the same time as i was!

Alright, LA is a popular holiday destination and hence you may think this is not a big deal either.

Then yesterday, i saw a friend posted this on FB:

In less than a week, my friend talked about the same song that i've posted on my blog. Ok, you can say that this is a popular song and it's usual for people to think of this song when we are lazing around doing nothing.

Now, how about the following?

Three friends on my FB, who do not know each other at all, posted similar thing on their walls on the same day:

If you are amazed by this, then i've fooled you.

It was Singapore Curry Day on 21st August lar... heehee...

So you may be asking now - what is my point to write all these, besides being really bo liao?

Well, the world is smaller than we think it is, and nothing in this world is real coincidence. Our environment, peers, media... all play a part in moulding us and conditioning how and what we think. So, do be wary of it.

And now, i am craving for curry.

Labels:

aiyoh, kena cheated.... luckily you revealed spore curry day. why curry day, not durian day, cendol day, etc? ym

aiseh, i've always thought malaysian professionals working in SG would have higher chance in applying PR if to compare with other foreigners since our culture is not much different from them, sigh.

don't eat so much curry, afterwards you'd get "liao sai" ... cheers.
